In addition to the text there are instructions for the performance of accompanying actions and suggestions on appropriate settings for storytelling and language sessions to take place. Introducing each segment is an explanation of the speech therapy techniques that are used when a particular rhyme is performed. Identifying these techniques enables early childhood workers to more effectively apply their knowledge of speech and language development to their programmes. Parents can also use the material for a fun way to work with their children. Our training day was a great boost to staff confidence in using storytelling to assist in language and speech development, socialisation and basic learning.
