Tell Me: Storytelling as a Global Language is based on two premises; everyone loves a story and anyone can tell a story. With this in mind I have chosen 50 folktales from around the world for you to read and tell to your students, with 25 storytelling based activities to accompany them. A good story, well told, offers itself up to the listener to take what they need from it. This book is an attempt to do the same. The stories can be read out aloud or silently, studied as a cultural resource, or enjoyed simply as a good tale. They can be learnt by students to be told both inside and outside the classroom, or used as a resource for the suggested language, literature and learning activities. As well as playing a vital role in the cognitive, emotional and social development of children, folktales are a medium for teaching life lessons and passing on cultural traditions and values. Creating confident and compassionate communicators can be achieved at any educational level through the implementation of regular storytelling sessions.
